St Mirren paved their way to this summer’s Renfrewshire Cup final this evening with a 10-0 victory against Carlton YM.
Danny Lennon fielded a side with a mixture of youth and experience with the manager adding to that experience by including himself in the starting XI.
The home side started the scoring early and often as they raced into the lead when Jack Smith netted on the 5 minute mark. This was quickly followed by strikes from Darren McGregor on 11 minutes, Thomas Reilly 3 minutes later and Smith again on the 20 minute mark.
After the early hectic pace the game died down considerably but Kieran Doran – who was capped and scored for the Scotland Under-16 side against Italy two weeks ago – added to Saints tally shortly before half-time.
Saints also got off to a quick start in the second half as Thomas Reilly netted his second goal of the night on the 50th minute. The youngster then completed his hat-trick 14 minutes later to puts Saints into a 7-0 lead.
In the final 10 minutes a strike from Jon Scullion and a brace from Lewis McLear completed the scoring to give Saints a convincing victory.
St Mirren starting line-up: McHugh, Doran, Meechan, Lennon, McGregor, Naismith, Reilly, McKernon, Smith, Mooy, Tesselaar.
