Post Match Quotes – Alex Rae (02/01/2016)

By Alan Gallacher at Cappielow Park

IT was a pleased and contented Alex Rae who addressed the media after Saints 1-0 win over Morton, but whilst delighted with his team’s victory the new manager was not for getting carried away in the least.

He said: “Obviously delighted with the win, but what was so pleasing was we were able to make ourselves competitive as we changed our shape to make us hard to beat and more compact and everybody who was here could how committed we were.

“We deserved a draw at the very least, but it is nice to get the win. Davie [Farrell] has come in and we will be demanding of the players and hopefully we can build on this win as like I say we were a whole lot more compact than we were last week where we got stretched at times.

“We have let Craig Reid go back to Motherwell and Luke Conlan is back at Burnley so we will be looking to bring a few in. We have spoken to and approached a few clubs about a few different players, but we will need to sit down and prioritise the areas we need to strengthen.”

Morton manager, Jim Duffy, felt his team were worthy of at minimum a point and were undone by some bad luck.

He said: “Things didn’t go for us at all, they never went our way . Balls wouldn’t fall for us and there was an element of luck about the goal they got.

“We didn’t deserve to lose, but derbys are all about winning and getting the bragging rights. I think we played reasonably well until the final fifteen minutes when we just started lumping it.”
