New Signing: Scott Gallacher

St Mirren manager Alex Rae made another addition to his squad this afternoon as goalkeeper Scott Gallacher put pen to paper on a one year deal with the club.

A youth player with Rangers, Scott made 6 appearances for the Glasgow side and had loan spells with Cowdenbeath, Forfar Athletic and Airdrieonians before signing for Hearts in the summer of 2014.

The former Scotland Under-21 cap made 3 appearances for the Jambos in his first season at Tynecastle and last season had a loan spell with Forfar Athletic before leaving Hearts and signing for Alloa Athletic in January where he went on to make 15 appearances for the Wasps.

St Mirren TV’s James Hunter spoke with Scott shortly after the keeper signed.

Scott said: “Alex phoned me, spoke well and everything he said about the club was positive so it was a no brainer for me. I spoke with Jamie [Langfield] today and the manager said he’s going to throw a jersey up on a Saturday and see who’s going to get it. You can’t ask for a fairer shot than that and we’ll need to work hard to earn it – that’s the main thing.

“They seem a good bunch of lads but they usually are at football teams – hopefully I can help everybody out.

“It’s a good competitive league and everyone will want to try and win games. It’s up there with the Premiership, outwith maybe Rangers or Celtic, but apart from that it’s a very good competitive league.”

St Mirren manager, Alex Rae said of his latest addition to the squad: “We contacted Scott about joining us and I met him a week ago. One of the things I want throughout the club is competition and I think big Gal will provide that. He’s been at some big clubs in Rangers and Hearts and he’d just completed a season at Alloa, which will give him experience that will allow him an opportunity to stake a claim for the number one jersey.

“I’ve said to everyone today in the team meeting that I want competition. I think it’s healthy and by the same token I want one unit, I want them all together and I want to have them all fighting for each other.

“We want to try and get people in the door so that they can familiarise themselves with the pre-season training that we’re doing and, by doing that, we can get down to some serious work over the next seven to ten days.”
