The Academy hopeful, Kenny McLean has certainly made an impression on St Mirren’s manager Danny Lennon which has seen the youngster recently promoted to the 1st team squad.
Kenny has progressed through the youth system at St Mirren FC and has stepped up at every level that he has been asked to play in, despite being released by Rangers FC in his early footballing career.
However there is more to McLean than just his ability in the midfield and in front of goal. Tall, powerfully built and with a hard-working attitude, the talented youngster is a player that has impressed onlookers of late yet points to the guidance of Academy coaches David Longwell and Frazer Robertson as the reason behind his progression.
Kenny, last season had a loan spell at Arbroath FC, where he made several appearances but he made his debut for St Mirren’s 1st team earlier this season when he come on as a substitute against Hamilton Academical. The following week saw Kenny make his starting debut at Tynecastle against Heart of Midlothian.
In October 2010, the youngster signed a 3 year extension to his contract which means he will continue to ply his trade with the Saints until at least the summer of 2014.
Kenny has also recently caught the eye of the international selectors as he has been included in recent Scotland U19 squads.
