A former defender with Tolka Rovers in the Irish Republic, David grabbed the opportunity to join Celtic in 1999 as a 17-year old.  However, despite 20 Irish Youth caps to his credit, the sizeable squad list at Celtic Park was an effective barrier in providing First Team opportunities so a move to Saints followed in the summer of 2003.The summer of 2008 saw David leave St Mirren to move to Hibernian who were then managed by former St Mirren player Mixu Paatelaininen. After Mixu was replaced by John Hughes, appearances for David became scarcer so much so he was put out on a short loan spell with Morton before eventually being released by the Easter Road side during the January 2010 ‘Transfer Window’.David joined Hamilton Academical for the second half of the 2009-2010 season where he made 6 appearances but on June 15th 2010 he was officially announced as new manager, Danny Lennon’s first signing for St Mirren. The Irishman – who is under contract until the summer of 2014 – made his 300th appearance for Saints on February 16th 2013 in a SPL match against Hibernian.

David is one of only two players (the other being Hugh Murray) to win three honours with the Club; First Division (2005-2006), Scottish Challenge Cup (2005-2006) and the League Cup (2012-2013). He was also inducted into the St Mirren ‘Hall of Fame’ on 19th May 2013.

Darren started his senior career with Cowdenbeath in 2003 but in the summer of 2006 he was released by the Blue Brazil to sign for Junior side Arniston Rangers. Two years later the defender was back at Central Park with Cowdenbeath under new manager Danny Lennon, going on to help the Fife side to back to back promotions. When Danny took over the managerial reins at St Mirren in the summer of 2010, McGregor was one of his first signing targets when he put pen to paper on a 2 year deal. The central defender went on to be a fans’ favourtite as he racked up 43 appearances in his first season for St Mirren.

After being voted by the fans as the St Mirren Official Website’s Player of the Year for season 2010-2011 big things were expected of Darren but a serious knee injury had him out of contention from the first week in August till the last week in March when he made his return from the substitute’s bench in a SPL match against Kilmarnock.

Ironically the defender suffered the same fate last season as he injured the other knee after only three games that meant he would have to sit out the rest of the season.
